Seven months following its inauguration, the Yves-D’Alcantara library in Querrieu, north of Amiens, is attracting more and more readers. They and they are more than a hundred to have joined following the opening in December, made possible by book donations. This summer, the library remains open every Wednesday: an opportunity to visit the premises and collect the impressions of readers and the volunteer librarian, Elisabeth Foulon.

A place punctuated by many activities
Among the activities offered by Elisabeth Foulon this summer, a children’s book reading workshop as The Three Bandits by Tomi Ungerer, in front of an audience of captivated children. The least attentive are finally their grannies, Sylvie and Odile, who chat in a corner: “we love coming here with our grandchildren, it allows us to offer them new books when we have none left at home“.

These two grandmothers also greet the social link created by the library : “it also allows us to meet young parents and to make the village live and conviviality.” In less than a year, the librarian has thus organized an exhibition of animal photographs, invited a youth illustrator, set up a breathing workshop. Elisabeth Foulon claims this “jack-of-all-trades” side: “some lonely people may come across others here, it’s a meeting place, and that’s what I wanted to create: much more than a library“.

Future projects and desires for the library
According to Elisabeth Foulon, everything is not yet perfect in the place. She lacks a good internet connection for her recording software, and she still needs to add many books to the catalog. But it is taking shape gradually, and is already projected in the coming months, with the reception of the schools of Querrieu and Pont-Noyelles.

The library will soon be hosting more books for its collection, thanks to a grant of one thousand euros from the Somme departmental council. Elisabeth Foulon accepts suggestions but already has a wish list in mind. She always accepts, moreover, book donations, but on condition that they are recent.
