“Almost a month’s worth of precipitation fell overnight,” Nadsadin wrote in his telegram channels.
According to him, the city park suffered the most from the night elements. Of the social facilities, school No. 23 suffered the most. The pumping of water continues.
“211 appeals were received from residents. All of them are at work. 29 people, including 16 children, were evacuated to a temporary accommodation center,” the head of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk said.
“According to weather forecasts, no more precipitation is expected,” the mayor added.
On the night of September 1, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk was flooded with heavy rain. Several thousand citizens were left without electricity. Streets, houses, schools, roads are flooded. The consequences of the disaster are being eliminated by emergency recovery teams. Due to bad weather, the lineup for the Day of Knowledge and classes in all schools of the regional center were postponed to September 4th. An emergency regime has been introduced in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
