In December 2019, the United Nations General Assembly announced that May 21st would be designated as the “International Tea Day” to praise the economic, social and cultural value of tea and promote the sustainable development of agriculture. Promote the establishment of an international festival in the field of agriculture. On May 21 this year, the fourth “5.21 International Tea Day” theme event was held in Xiongda Tea City, Kunming. On the same day, Pu’er City held the launching ceremony of the “International Tea Day” activity week; Lincang City launched a series of promotional activities of “Drinking a Cup of Chinese Tea Together and Lincang Sample Tea Returning to the Past”.
Right now is the season for Yunnan spring tea picking, production and processing, and the production and sales of major tea areas are booming. People in the industry have said that in 2023, with the economic improvement, tea merchants and tea consumers expect to increase their future income, and the tea market will improve compared to 2022.
The tea industry is a dominant industry, characteristic industry, and key industry in Yunnan Province. Following the realization of the goal of “100 billion cloud tea industry” in Yunnan Province in 2020, the cloud tea industry will continue to improve in 2021, with a comprehensive output value of 107.11 billion yuan; in 2022, with the rapid development of Yunnan’s characteristic industries, the entire industry chain of the cloud tea industry will be realized The comprehensive output value was 138 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 30.95 billion yuan. The province’s tea garden area was 7.436 million mu, a year-on-year increase of 0.5%; tea output was 515,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.1%. The province’s green organic tea garden area reached 2.447 million mu, a year-on-year increase of 52.6%. Since 2015, the certified area of organic tea gardens in Yunnan and the number of certified products have been ranked first in the country for many years.
On January 28 this year, five departments of Yunnan Province jointly issued the “Three-Year Action Plan for the High-quality Development of the Tea Industry in Yunnan Province (2023-2025)”, proposing that the cloud tea industry will adhere to the guidance of green development, with Pu’er tea, Yunnan Focusing on black tea, guided by market demand, optimizing the industrial layout, constructing a modern cloud tea with coordinated development of tea culture, tea industry, tea technology and tea ecology from the aspects of subject cultivation, brand building, technological innovation, tea tourism integration and development, etc. Industrial system, and strive to realize the transformation from a large province of tea industry to a strong province of tea industry. The “Plan” clearly states that by 2025, the province’s tea planting area and output will be stabilized at 7.4 million mu and 500,000 tons respectively, and an area of 1.5 million mu of green and organic tea gardens will be added. At the same time, the area of organic certified tea gardens and organic certified tea products will be maintained.
