Yunlin received more than 3 million tourists during the seven-day New Year holiday, and more than 80% of them were pilgrims praying for blessings. The Yunlin County Government’s tourism strategy of “pilgrims to tourists” has been effective, successfully attracting pilgrims to various scenic spots in the county, and store performance has increased on average. 20% to 30%, effectively boosting the overall tourism industry in Yunlin. Known as “the most beautiful waterfront lantern festival in Taiwan,” the Tainan Yanyan Yuejin Harbor Lantern Festival and the first-ever Xinying Wave Light Festival attracted more than 360,000 visitors during the Spring Festival.
Yunlin County Magistrate Zhang Lishan said that during the 2024 Spring Festival holiday, the three major temples of Beigang Chaotian Palace, Beigang Wude Palace, and Xiluo Fuxing Palace were visited by pilgrims. Among them, Chaotian Palace and Wude Palace each had more than one million visitors. Xiluo Fuxing Palace also had an influx of more than 800,000 devotees, which not only attracted a considerable influx of pilgrims, but also led to the recovery of various tourism industries in the county in conjunction with the “Pilgrims Transformed into Tourists” strategy.
Chen Bijun, director of the Yunlin County Culture and Tourism Department, mentioned that the county government’s tourism policy goal is to “turn pilgrims into tourists, and tourists into regular customers.” The tourist arrivals target in 2024 must not only exceed 20 million, but also target 25 million, inviting all Taiwan People visit Yunlin to experience its transformation and the beauty of its scenic spots.
The Tainan City Cultural Affairs Bureau pointed out that the two major lantern festivals in Xibei, such as the Yuejin Harbor Lantern Festival and the first-ever Xinying Wave Light Festival, complement each other. During the Spring Festival, the scene was full of tourists taking photos and immersing themselves in the romantic atmosphere of the lantern festival.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau said that this year, the weather has warmed up due to the beautiful weather, attracting people to come to enjoy the lanterns. During the Spring Festival holiday, it is estimated that more than 270,000 tourists flocked to Yanyan Town to participate in the Yuejin Harbor Lantern Festival. Qiaonan Old Street and surrounding alleys The business of stall vendors is booming; the Xinying Wave Light Festival displays a total of 9 sets of themed highlight works, a light environment around the lake and a large water fountain. During consecutive holidays, more than 90,000 people have flocked to the event venue, Swan Lake Park.
In addition, during the Spring Festival holiday, Tainan City’s historical sites, cultural venues and parks also received an influx of more than 586,000 tourists from home and abroad; as for the 2024 Hoi’an Lantern District in Taiwan, it attracted more than 2.805 million visitors to enjoy the lanterns.
