Yuki Tsunoda “Monza is a circuit that has never done a full race with an F1 car” / Scuderia Alpha Tauri F1 Italian GP preview[F1-Gate.com]

Yuki Tsunoda (Scuderia AlphaTauri) spoke about his enthusiasm for the 2022 F1 Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

At last year’s Italian Grand Prix, a problem with the brakes was discovered after completing the pre-final reconnaissance lap. Unable to repair it on the grid, the machine was returned to the garage, but AlphaTauri Honda decided to retire. We ended the weekend without starting.

Yuki Tsunoda therefore aspires to run the full race distance at Scuderia AlphaTauri’s home race.

“The team did a good job improving the car in time for qualifying at Zandvoort, but it didn’t work out in the race and we had a problem with the differential, so we had to stop. I’ve been able to reset, and I’m concentrating on Monza, which is a special race for the team,” commented Yuki Tsunoda.

“We didn’t start the Italian Grand Prix last year, which means we’ve never actually raced a Formula 1 car at a full-length Grand Prix at Monza. So, after Imola, another home track for us. I am very eager to be able to race in. I know the team will be too, so I have good motivation for this weekend.”

“At the moment we don’t know how the car will fit on this track, but as always we will work to extract as much performance as possible.”

“Slipstream is a key factor on this fast track, but with these newer cars it affects us less than it used to. Now we can follow another car better in corners, so overtaking is possible. but can get stuck on the DRS train.”

“I think in qualifying you’ll see everyone trying to get the tow. How you handle that tricky situation could be the key to doing well in qualifying.”

Yuki Tsunoda, who was reprimanded for the fifth time in the season at the previous round in the Netherlands Grand Prix, was given a 10-place grid penalty in the Italian Grand Prix.

“Of course we have penalties for this race (because of five disciplinary actions), but I like this track.”
