Yuki Tsunoda (Scuderia Alpha Tauri) spoke regarding his enthusiasm for the 2022 F1 Round 13 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Scuderia AlphaTauri introduced a large-scale upgrade to the AT03 at the previous round in France. Yuki Tsunoda made it through to Q3 in qualifying and secured 8th place on the grid, but was forced to retire in the final due to an accident on the opening lap.
Yuki Tsunoda says that at the Hungarian Grand Prix, he wants to deepen his understanding and bring out the performance, as it means that the time to evaluate the upgrade has been reduced due to the race distance.
“The weekend in France was important for the team as they introduced a big update aimed mainly at increasing downforce. Friday’s free practice showed clear signs of improvement and we were pleased with our qualifying performance. We made it to Q3, so I felt like we were making progress.”
“But Ocon hit and my race was ruined, I tried to keep going but in the end the damage was so bad I had to retire and it was a car in race distance. It meant that it was difficult to assess changes in
“Going from a fast circuit like Ricard to a very slow and twisty Hungaroring is a huge contrast. We might get a better idea of what
“Last year we had a bit of luck in this race. Qualifying was a difficult session and we were 16th, but following an accident on the opening lap on Sunday, we ended up in 6th.”
“The Hungaroring is a fun track to drive. There are no long straights so you don’t have time to relax and you have to get into the rhythm at every corner, but overtaking is difficult and the race is very competitive with other cars. It can get stuck in the back and get a little frustrating.”
“This year we’d like to see if things improve with these new cars. So far we’ve found it easier to overtake than before. Qualifying well is still very important.”
“If I get points right before the race, the next summer vacation will be even more fun, so I want to do my best.”
