Yudai Honma – Department of Architecture, University of Tokyo

His specialties are architecture and urban planning, social systems, and mathematical modeling.

We use mathematical modeling as a tool to quantify architecture and cities, and explore the possibility of linking this to better architecture and urban planning. We look at the essence of various actions by various people, that is, the “human pattern,” and attempt to develop seamless designs that connect architecture and cities. Examples of research themes in recent years are as follows:

– Mathematical evaluation of exhibition space based on the location and total number of viewers, taking into account the asymmetry of visibility
– Analysis of interior space by enumerating convex spaces – Simulation of traffic policy to realize a historic streetscape where pedestrians and automobiles coexist
– Multipurpose optimal placement of “roadside stations” as transportation, logistics, exchange and disaster prevention hubs
