YouTubers from Shangla who are requested by people to sing Pashto Tappe

‘Tappa, a genre of Pashto poetry, has been admired for its frank manner of standing up and speaking to people in public. It gained popularity and today people give a lot of love.’

It was said that Afsarul Mulk, who is known to his fans as Afsar Afghan, hails from Lailoni, a remote and backward area of Shangla District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He is one of the famous YouTubers of the province.

Afsar Afghan, who has a total of one million followers on various social media platforms, has recently become very popular with a Pashto song, which has been seen, heard and liked by a large number of Tik Tok users.

Afsar has done MA in Journalism from Afghan University of Peshawar but decided to try his luck on social media instead of mainstream media.

“I think there were very few opportunities for me to showcase my skills in the mainstream media, and that’s why I decided to step into the world of social media,” he says.

Initially Afsar Afghan also worked by being associated with a few private TV channels and FM radios.

Speaking to Independent Urdu, Afsar Afghan said: ‘Later I thought of making videos myself and posting them on social media, and started doing so.’

He initially created a YouTube channel where he continued to post videos, most of which were about Pashtun culture.

‘It was because from childhood I had a passion for promoting culture. Used to sing tapays etc., so made and uploaded videos on the same subject for my YouTube channel.’

Afsar Afghan’s specialty is to sing tapa in Pashto language, and that too in public places i.e. street, bazaar, or shop and among common people.

‘This is the frankness that people like. Wherever I go, people ask to sing tapa.’

During Officer Afghan’s conversation with Independent Urdu, some admirers of the traffic police squad came to meet Officer Afghan.

The guests tapped Officer Afghan on his mobile phone immediately after the stunt.

In which, addressing the beloved, it is said: ‘I am the nominal officer and you are the real (female) officer.’

In Pashto, for the purpose of praising or flattering a person, he is called officer.

About the secret behind tappe singing in a frank manner, Officer Afghan said, ‘Earlier, a regular gathering was organized to perform poetry, where poets recited kalam, but I have made the mushairas more public and frank. .’

He said that wherever there is an opportunity, they use the same Mushaira, and don’t give importance to more difficulties.

‘The disadvantage of the previous system was that sometimes very good poets were not invited to Mushairas, but I stand anywhere with these young poets and sing freely.’

On social media, where Afsar Afghan has millions of fans, his content is also criticized.

The officer said: ‘We also get abuse. People also criticize severely because our society is like that, here people definitely criticize new or creative work.

‘But I deal with this criticism very well and explain it to people with love.’

He said that most of the critics become his admirers after meeting him and even apologize for their criticism.
