The YouTuber tested the accident detection feature on the iPhone 14, and the YouTuber found that the emergency call function that Apple added to its new phones works reliably in the event of an out-of-control vehicle collision, McRamers said.
The YouTuber, owner of TechRax, posted a video clip in which his team remotely controls a driverless car containing an iPhone 14 Pro wrapped with a sticker on the headrest of the driver’s seat, and the team is trying to make the car collide with an old and disabled vehicle.
After a seemingly short amount of delay, the iPhone 14 Pro’s accident tracking function was automatically activated, the phone triggered an emergency countdown, and was going to call emergency services, but the team manually canceled it before the call might be made.
While these tests don’t necessarily prove that the feature works just as well in reality, in the event of incidents out of control, activating as expected should give confidence to iPhone 14 owners who keep the feature enabled.
The accident detection feature is automatically activated and is supported by all the new iPhone 14 phones that Apple announced earlier this month, and it is also present in the new Apple Watches.
