YouTube targets artificial intelligence-generated impostures in videos

YouTube has announced that it will soon be able to request the removal of impostures generated by artificial intelligence.

These new rules are due to come into force in the coming months amid fears that videos containing elements generated by artificial intelligence could be used for electoral manipulation, scams or putting people in false situations.

“We will make it possible to request the removal of content generated by artificial intelligence or other content manipulated to simulate an identifiable person, including their face and voice,” said Emily Moxley and Jennifer Flannery O’Connor, vice presidents responsible for product management.

The criteria taken into account when requesting a withdrawal will relate in particular to the differentiation between parodies and videos showing real people who can be identified.

Indicate when content was created using AI

YouTube will also ask creators to clearly indicate when realistic content has been created using artificial intelligence so that people viewing it are notified with a specific display.

“This could be an AI-created video that realistically depicts an event that never happened or content showing someone saying or doing something that they didn’t say or do », added the two officials.

Non-compliance with rules

Failure to comply with these policies will result in content being removed from YouTube or suspended from the ad revenue sharing program.

YouTube also plans to allow the music industry to request the removal of content created to copy an artist’s style.
