In just over two years, the TikTok app has reached new heights of popularity across the globe. Due to this, YouTube itself has now come up with the idea of creating a web alternative to Tik Tok which is named as ‘Shorts’.
According to analysts, this app can be successful because there is a large collection of music, videos and effects available for free on YouTube at the moment. In this way, YouTube will have an all-round advantage over Tik Tok.
It will probably be included with the YouTube app itself, but thanks to the option, it will now be possible to create short videos from within the same app. A report says that YouTube has planned to launch a shorts app only after the phenomenal popularity of Tik Tok.
Launched in China in 2016, the Tik Tok app became popular and boomed by 2018. Like Vines, it can create short videos of three to sixty seconds that play in a continuous loop.
It is also by far the most downloaded app from both app websites. Due to its simplicity, it is becoming very popular among youth and teenage boys and girls. App downloads have increased by 125% in two years.
On the other hand, Tik Tok has also been a victim of controversies. American politicians have criticized it and termed it as a cause of social unrest. Many questions have been raised on Tik Tok in Pakistan itself. But no such thing has come out about YouTube.
YouTube is expected to introduce shorts by the end of 2020, but with the current lockdown, it may be introduced sooner. However, Facebook has also announced to offer a TikTok-like app called Lasso.
