YouTube block adblockers – Geeko

YouTube goes on the offensive. The platform is currently testing a measure that bans ad blockers. The idea is to push users to subscribe to YouTube Premium.

This is a huge change that YouTube is preparing for. In all likelihood, it will soon no longer be possible to block ads on the platform. It was a Reddit user who spotted the update first, screenshot to support.

YouTube quickly confirmed the rumours, but stresses that this is, for now, a small-scale test. In the pop-up window, the platform explains that ad blockers are prohibited because ” keeps YouTube free for billions of users”.

Obviously, this change in policy may displease more than one Internet user. Ads occupy an increasingly important place in videos. However, this decision stems from the same logic, since YouTube seeks neither more nor less than to increase the number of its Premium users.

With more than 80 million subscribers at the end of 2022, YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium are experiencing strong growth. The platform is now deciding to take a big risk, even if it means alienating part of its community, the bet might pay off. It remains to be seen if the group will decide to go all the way.
