The Lebanese broadcaster, Dalia Ahmed, attacked the Syrian singer, Asala Nasri, because of her statements that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the one who credits her during her artistic career.
Dalia Ahmed said: “How did Saudi Arabia make your artistic history for you, when a few years ago art and singing were forbidden?! Did you take the tunes from the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, madam?!
And she continued: “Your beginning was in Syria and Lebanon, then you settled in Egypt, and the most famous melodies that made you famous in the Arab region were made to you by Egyptian composers, so how did things change.”
And she added: “Your national feeling changes with the change of your husbands, my dear. When you were the wife of Tariq Al-Arian, Egypt was the bosom, and now, following your marriage to Faeq Hassan, who resides in Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabia has become the bosom!”
Asala Nasri sparked a state of controversy and anger among social media activists in Egypt, due to statements in which she singled out Saudi Arabia alone for her artistic career.
Asala said that she owes credit to Saudi Arabia, in her artistic career, which sparked a state of anger for her Egyptian fans because she did not mention the name of Egypt, especially since the beginning of her fame following her presence from Syria was from Cairo.
For his part, composer Helmy Bakr, during a telephone interview with Al-Hadath Al-Youm channel, attacked Asala’s statements and said: “Egypt embraced Asala more than Syria. It is once morest her, and it is a shame that she denies the virtue of Egypt over her. The public has become more generous than necessary. The response is with the audience, not with us. My son, when he makes a mistake, I punish him.
Bakr added, “Asala has the Syrian and Bahraini nationalities, but she lives in Egypt, and when I was in Syria and the broadcaster came to present her, he said: If Syria is the birth, then Egypt is the bosom, a shame.”
For her part, Asala sent a letter of apology to the Egyptian public following the latter’s statements.
Asala said, during a telephone conversation with the journalist, Amr Adib, on the “Al-Hekaya” program, broadcast on “mbc Egypt” on Friday evening: “I learned from you the gratitude that I do for my children.”
And she added: “I didn’t do anything and expressed my gratitude only to the state in which I was present, and I am sorry if there was a word that hurt you.
