Mr. President, this Monday, July 3, 2023, you wrote a new page in the political history of our dear country, Senegal. While several voices and not the least were raised to commit You to a second five-year term, You have decided not to run for the next presidential election on February 25, 2024.

As a man of integrity and faithful to your word, You have chosen to be satisfied with these mandates which are well fulfilled in all respects. From 2012 to today, you have been a great builder, radically changing the face of our dear country. As You said so well, the time to take stock will come, and at that time, it is true, we will be able to lay out the long list of Your achievements as the fourth President of Senegal.
I like to remember from you today the great democrat that you are. You make us, today even more than yesterday, proud to be Senegalese. Your decision today is one of those that forever mark the history of a Nation. You have inscribed in marble and in letters of gold, both our country and Your name in the pantheon of democracy, because for the first time in the life of our young Nation, the Outgoing President will not participate in the next presidential election.
Of course, you have accustomed us to large-scale innovations, but this one, democratic for our country, many did not see coming. But, for those of us who have known you for several decades, such a decision, filled with magnanimity and responsibility, hardly surprises us.
