Barcelona player Lamine Yamal set a new record on Tuesday, as he became the youngest player ever to start a match for the Spanish national team, at the age of 16 years and 61 days.
This was another record for Yamal, who became the youngest player to participate and score a goal, on Friday when he played his first international match, in a 7-1 win over Georgia.
Ferran Torres scored two goals to help Spain achieve a comfortable 6-0 victory over Cyprus, bottom of the standings, in the 2024 European Championship qualifiers.
Yamal was once once more active on the right wing, and created many chances before he was substituted at the beginning of the second half, as he fired a powerful shot that bounced off the post in the 39th minute, and Alvaro Morata scored following following the ball, but the referee canceled the goal due to offside following reviewing the video technology.
Spain’s goals came in the first half, through assists from another talented young winger, 21-year-old Athletic Bilbao player Nico Williams.
Gabi scored to give the hosts an early lead in the 18th minute, then Mikel Moreno added the second goal 15 minutes later, both of them following a cross pass from Williams, who fired a shot from close range that was blocked by goalkeeper Joel Moll shortly followingwards.
Substitute Joselu scored the third goal with a header in the 70th minute, and Torres, Alex Baena and then Torres once more finished off the job for Spain with shots from close range.
Spain occupies second place in Group A with 9 points from 4 matches, and is 6 points behind leaders Scotland, but has a game in hand.
