The Young University of IMC Krems is taking place on campus for the 16th time this year

Krems (OTS) – From July 10 to 14, 2023, 250 children and young people aged 10 to 13 can immerse themselves in the world of science and research. The transmission of the lectures from the last few years will be retained in order to make participation from home possible.

Diverse program

Under the motto “Stay Curious”, the children and young people have the opportunity to take part in a wide-ranging program of lectures and workshops. Everything to get the participants excited regarding science and research will be brought closer to them on the various days with a focus on topics such as health or digitization.

“We decided on the motto “Stay Curious” this year because it is particularly important to us to encourage curiosity among the participants. We look forward to bringing the world of science and research closer to the children and young people and to experiencing a varied Young University Week with them,” says project manager Sabine Steinkellner, MA.

For example, in the “From Julius Caesar to Bitcoin” workshop, children and young people learn everything regarding cryptography. In the workshop “Backstage in the hospital” everything revolves around the path of patients in the hospital, but the children and young people also explore how entire films can be shot with smartphones.

“We want to make our youth curious, curious regarding science, new areas of study or future jobs. Of course, we also want to discuss and work on current topics with them, such as the environment, but digitization, health and law are also topics that we discuss with the children. But the most important reason why the Young University exists is that we want to hear children laughing on campus for a week,” says IMC Krems Managing Director Mag. Ulrike Prommer.

Young university graduation

On Friday, July 14, 2023, an exciting young university week will culminate with the graduation ceremony. The young researchers can celebrate their success together with their loved ones.

UNESCO-awarded pioneering project

The Young Uni was founded by the IMC Krems in 2006 as the first youth university in Lower Austria and has been held successfully every year since then. So far, more than 2,500 young students have been inspired by subjects such as mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology, management, biotechnology, IT and languages. In 2008, the project was recognized by UNESCO as an Austrian Decade Project for Sustainability and is now part of a network with over 150 children’s and youth universities worldwide.
