Young Primorsky sportsman wins world championship in Thai boxing

13-year-old Maxim Dobronozhenko from Nakhodka became the winner of the world championship in Thai boxing. The Primorsky athlete contributed to the overall result of the Russian team, which confidently won the overall team standings.

How reported in the regional ministry of physical culture and sports, the world championship in Thai boxing (Muaythai) was held in Bangkok. 1.7 thousand athletes from 110 countries came to the capital of the Kingdom of Thailand. Among them, the representative of the Nakhodka sports club “Portovik” Maxim Dobronozhenko fought for the victory.

The championship was held among boys and girls from 10 to 17 years old. The protégé of coaches Pavel Sitdikov and Alexander Panasyuk competed in the 44 kilogram weight category among boys aged 12-13. Maxim Dobronozhenko confidently won the fights against representatives of Poland and Vietnam, and in the final he was stronger than his peer from Belarus.

As reported by the regional federation of Thai boxing, at the world championship the Russian team consisting of 111 athletes confidently won the overall team standings, having won 56 gold, 18 silver and 19 bronze medals, which is two gold medals more than last year’s result. In second and third place are the teams of Ukraine and Thailand – eight gold medals each.

“Primorye athletes have been winning the world championship for several years now. In 2021 and 2023, the world forum was won by Roman Zhuravlev from the Artem sports club “Delta”. Thai boxing is a mass sport in Primorsky Krai, it is actively practiced in Vladivostok, Artem, Nakhodka, Chuguevka and Bolshoy Kamen. Primorye residents represent the region at all-Russian and world tournaments. In February of this year, the regional capital hosted the championship and championship of the Far Eastern Federal District for the first time,” he shared.
