A survey by the Regroupement des jeunes chambres de commerce du Québec, published Thursday, tells us that the vast majority of young professionals who have experimented with teleworking in recent years want to continue with this formula.
In the RJCCQ survey, we also learn that more than half of young people consider that direct working conditions are the most important element in their choice of an employer. I notice that young people in my age group want to work for a living, not the other way around.
Many of them prioritize positions that will allow them to have the best work/quality of life balance possible.
With the labor shortage, employers have no choice but to meet the needs of young people.
Changes are taking place in the labor market and it is time.
To have the choice
It may be due to climate change that threatens our future, but I notice that young people my age are less obsessed with their careers than their parents were.
We young people have a different view of work. Many of us want the ability to work from home, to enjoy flexible hours, to have healthy relationships with superiors, to be involved in decision-making processes, to be told why a task instead of just being asked to do it without asking questions…
Young people no longer endure anything and everything in their professional lives for fear of losing their jobs. Millennials and Generation Z, unlike previous generations, are blessed with choices. We have plenty of job opportunities and therefore have the luxury of being able to choose what best aligns with our values.
The job market needs young people, and vice versa. We can’t wait for the vision of youth work to benefit everyone.
