Young Moroccans in pole position

The presence of young Moroccan leaders within the representative bodies of the Global Shapers Annual Summit is confirmed nearly 5 decades following the creation of the World Economic Forum by Professor Klaus Schwab.

“The Forum is best known for its annual meeting towards the end of January in Davos, a mountain resort in the Eastern Alps region of Switzerland. The meeting brings together some 3,000 members and selected attendees, including investors, business leaders, political leaders, economists, celebrities and journalists, for five days to discuss global issues in 500 sessions. “Today, Moroccans occupy important positions within the World Economic Forum and the Global Shapers community, such as Wadia Ait Hamza, Director of the Young Global Leaders Community, Kenza M’haimdat, Community Manager of the Global Shapers in the MENA region, Oussama Benhmida Community Champion for North Africa, Zineb El Ouazzani member of the advisory board of the Global Shapers community, as well as several other Moroccans involved in different hubs around the world. At the national level, there are 8 Global Shapers Hubs in the cities of Casablanca, Mohammedia, Rabat, Sale, Fez, El Jadida, Marrakech and Laâyoune.

Each of them tackles issues related to their city. “For the past few years, we have been working on so many projects related to climate change, access to education, culture, social inclusion. This year, with everything that is happening in the world and in Morocco, we had to focus on a single project “Digital Saves“”, reveals the Curator of Casablanca hub.

According to the HCP, more than 55% of people who lost their jobs in 2020 due to COVID-19 are still inactive or looking for work, 85% worked in the construction sector and 75% worked in the industry and that’s where our project comes from, according to data collected by the Casablanca section of young leaders.

“Digital Saves helps people who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19, providing them with a comprehensive program starting with comprehensive web development training and very personal support until they can find their first professional opportunity. This career switch will not only help them save themselves from this crisis, but also prepare them for others. Access to the program is free and sponsored by IT companies in Morocco,” he concluded.
