In France, a woman of Jewish faith was injured with a stabbing weapon. The crime might have been “committed with an anti-Semitic motive,” the public prosecutor’s office in Lyon, France’s third-largest city, said on Saturday. An investigation into attempted murder has been launched. The victim was attacked at home and his life was not in danger, it said. There have been no arrests yet.

According to police sources, the crime occurred around midday. According to the victim, someone rang the doorbell. When the young woman opened the door, a partially masked person stabbed her twice. The perpetrator then fled. A swastika was sprayed on the apartment door.
Similar to Germany, the war between Israel and the radical Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas has caused an increase in the number of reported anti-Semitic acts in France. Within three weeks, the authorities recorded more than 850 such acts. Since France is home to both the largest Jewish and the largest Muslim communities in Europe, the government is worried that the Middle East conflict will spread to the country.
