The Junge GLP has an 18-year-old on its list for the cantonal elections whose name really catches the eye. It is Alain Berset from Buchrain. The young candidate is in the fourth year of his apprenticeship as a polymechanic. Apart from his name, he has no connection to the SP Federal President of the same name. When he was elected to the Federal Council, Berset from Lucerne was seven years old. The naming of his parents also has nothing to do with the politician from Freiburg. «I got this first name through the French actor Alain Delon. My mother was a fan of his,” says the cantonal candidate.
Berset should relax corona measures
The reactions to his name are always positive when he meets new people. “But over time, most people are no longer interested,” says Berset. But there were reactions, at least during the corona shutdown: “My colleagues often joked that I should finally lift the measures because they want to go out again.” Berset does not believe that the well-known namesake will bring him any advantages or disadvantages for his candidacy for the cantonal council: “The younger people will at most find it funny or interesting that we have the same name. I also don’t think that the headlines about the Federal Council could harm me because I have nothing to do with it.”
His means of transport is the bicycle, rarely vacations by plane
Berset was infected with the political virus by his mother Ursula, who politicized for the GLP in the cantonal council. “If I were elected, I would like to work for a sustainable future because things cannot go on as before.
