Young farmers leave their tractors on the farm but demand strong action

The Young Farmers agree to give priority to ongoing discussions between the authorities and representatives of the agricultural and mass retail sectors. The tractors should therefore no longer block the distribution centers in the coming days but the Federation of Young Farmers (FJA) is asking that the work of the task force be accompanied “(very) quickly by strong actions”.

Farmers have expressed their anger in recent weeks across the country and also in Europe. Several distribution centers of supermarket chains were blocked, leading to supply difficulties in stores.

On Friday, the Food task force held a first meeting in Brussels described as “positive” by the FJA which highlights, among certain “unprecedented commitments, that of working concretely on the fair price to the producer”.

“The Federation is now waiting for these good intentions to materialize through strong actions. It is with this in mind that we will collaborate with the political world and the links in the agri-food chain within the working groups planned very soon,” explains -She.

The FJA, on the other hand, is far from being satisfied with an increase of 50 cents announced for the price of a kilo of beef carcass. She calls for a rapid increase of 25% in the price paid to breeders and “the cost of which must be borne by the different links in the chain, without impacting, or in a limited way, consumers”.

Reducing administrative burdens on the farming profession is also among the objectives of the FJA.

“We are at a key moment and the force of mobilization is unprecedented. We will go to the finish if the responses and actions do not give the agricultural sector the respect and importance it deserves,” concludes Florian Poncelet, president of the FJA.
