The victim told authorities that he had been following the 25-year-old on social media for nearly a year, but the conversation began just one day before the complaint. The communication quickly took on an erotic content and when the 30-year-old sent her the video in question, she immediately started making threats, asking him to pay her the sum of money into a bank account she indicated. Otherwise, as he told him, he would distribute it to relatives and acquaintances. In fact, even when he reported the incident, the police found that the 25-year-old continued to threaten him with text and voice messages.
Nickname
It is worth noting that the defendant used a profile with a nickname and the victim did not know her real name, but the officers of the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate quickly managed to identify her through a digital – online search. On Tuesday afternoon, in the presence of a judicial official, they carried out a search at her house, in Melissia, and found the material in question in a folder with deleted files on her mobile phone. She was immediately arrested and a case file was filed against her for “continuous revenge pornography” and “attempted extortion”.
Both her mobile phone and a computer found at her home have been transferred to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for investigation, with authorities looking into whether she was systematically engaging in similar extortion. So far, however, there seem to be no such indications. Experienced cybercrime officers note that similar incidents of revenge porn with female and male victims are often recorded and draw attention to social media users, particularly when chatting with anonymous profiles.
