It’s the worldwide sprint weekend sensation. At the meeting in Clermont (Florida), young Issam Asinga (18), born December 29, 2004 in Atlanta (Georgia), won the 100m in 9”83 (+2.6 m/s), ahead of 200m world champion Noah Lyles (9”92). In series, Asinga had run in 9”86 (+4.1 m/s).

If his two times are too windy to be approved, this high school student from Montverde (Florida), near Orlando, and who will join the prestigious A & M University in Texas at the start of the school year, is obviously causing a sensation. No other high school student in the United States has ever clocked two times under 10 seconds.

Two parents who made the Olympics

His mother is the former Zambian sprinter Ngozi Mwanamwambwa, present at the 1992 and 1996 Olympics. grew up in Zambia before settling in Missouri and then joining Florida in 2023. He may in the future choose to race for the United States, Suriname or Zambia.

This winter, indoors, Issam Asinga had managed 6”57 over 60m and 20”48 over 200m. His 100m record is also fresh: 10”10 (+1 m/s) on March 31 in Gainesville (Florida).
