Young and rotated Arsenal continue in the league cup

Ethan Nwaneri scored his first senior goals for Arsenal.

After the big game on Sunday, Arteta made several changes to the starting eleven and won 5-1 against Bolton Wanderers.

First half

The Gunners who expectedly controlled the match from the start. Bolton came up with a good chance early on but failed to put it behind young Jack Porter. After a quarter of play, debutant Josh Nichols came on the right wing and smashed in a ball just outside the penalty area. The Bolton player doesn’t manage to get it away and instead it lands with Rice who nicely places the ball and makes it 1-0. The half continued and Arsenal had possession and Bolton failed to get hold of it. Twenty minutes later Lews-Skelly played through to Sterling who from his left flank played through to Nwaneri who scored his first first team goal in his first start.

Second Half

The second half was a continuation of the first and the difference in quality was clear. Already after four minutes, Rice manages to cleverly break a pass in Bolton’s build-up play and is able to free Nwaneri, who becomes a two-goal scorer. Bolton stood low in defense and the Gunners played around the ball. A few minutes later, Arsenal have a corner, but after a wrong pass in the penalty area, Bolton get a counterattack where Jorginho has difficulty running after the Bolton striker who cracks Porter’s goal. Ten minutes later Arteta makes his first changes as Gabriel and Havertz come on to replace an injured Lewis-Skelly and Declan Rice. The fourth goal came shortly after. Saka played in a ball that Bolton’s keeper fails to grasp and that Sterling can roll in easily. After a great dominance of the game from Arsenal, Havertz also scores the fifth goal on a rebound from Sterling’s shot.
Clear victory and on to the next round.

Player rating (according to the following scale):

1 = Failed
2 = Approved
3 = Bra
4 = Very good
5 = World class
6 = Henry

Jack Porter – 3
Unbelievably impressed to debut in the first team as a sixteen-year-old, especially for a goalkeeper. Thus became the youngest Arsenal player to play a match from the start.

Josh Nichols – 3
He also makes his first match. Played well, had a few turnovers but always tries to create, play the ball forward and looked very alert.

Jakub Kiwior – 2
Stable instas. Had a few mispasses but didn’t have much to do defensively either.

Riccardo Calafiori – 4
Extremely good at driving the ball forward. Also same as Kiwior, there wasn’t much offensive threat from Bolton but did a very good game.

Myles Lewis-Skelly – 4
Incredible talent he is and what a great match he makes. Despite his age, he plays with a calmness and confidence that is incredible. Outstanding pass to Sterling for the 2-0 goal.

Jorginho – 3
Controlled the game well, didn’t lose the ball and hit several nice high balls in the second half.

Ethan Nwaneri – 4
Same as with Lewis-Skelly absolutely incredible effort. To score two goals in his first match as a seventeen-year-old. Had a nice drive with the ball and played very maturely.

Declan Rice – 4
Make a flawless match. Played an hour but he still with 1+1.

Bukayo Saka – 3
Make a perfectly ok match. A bit invisible in the first 45 but plays better in the second half. Also behind the 4-1 goal.

Raheem Sterling – 4
First start and he also makes 1+1. Weaker first half but I think he does incredibly well in the second half.

Gabriel Jesus – 2
A bit careless with the ball at times. I expect a bit more from him, especially in a match like this.

Understudy

Gabriel – 3
Difficult to judge as he hardly had to act defensively but controlled the back line well and helped the young guys.

Kai Havertz – 3
Score a goal and be involved in some dangerous chances.

Maldini Kacurri – X

Played too short to judge.

Gabriell Martinelli – X

Played too short to judge.

Ismael Kabia – X

Played too short to judge.

This weekend, Leicester City awaits at home in the league.
