LR Teschl-Hofmeister: “Inspiring young people for research and science”
St. Polten (OTS/NLK) – Children’s UNI Tulln celebrated its tenth anniversary at GARTEN TULLN and at the Tulln Technopol campus, this year with the focus on “Discovering the secrets of nature with researchers”. 120 participating children researched and discovered under the guidance and supervision of experts. A varied program showed the theoretical and practical background and connections between science and research. For five days, the eight to twelve-year-olds conducted experiments, explored gardens, animals and plants and got to know the environmental studies on the Tulln campus. The focus was on the look behind the scenes of researchers. Getting to know laboratories, material stores, working methods and processes inspired the young academics in the week-long research routine. Children’s UNI Tulln is the annual highlight of the “Learning in the Garden” theme of “Nature in the Garden”.
“I congratulate the graduates, we can be very proud of them. For ten years, the children’s UNI Tulln has been an important project to get young people interested in research and science in Lower Austria and to pass on the knowledge they have acquired to family and friends,” emphasizes Provincial Councilor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister.
Family Minister Susanne Raab: “Congratulations to the young researchers who were honored today for their experiments and research work as part of the Tulln Children’s University! It’s important to instill a passion for research and science in children from an early age so they may later choose a career in STEM that they might not otherwise have thought of. The children’s university in Tulln is a great offer, congratulations on your tenth anniversary!”
“Nature in the Garden” was implemented by the Children’s UNI Tulln 2023 together with the following partners: Office of the Lower Austrian Provincial Government, Department of Science and Research; Office of the Lower Austrian provincial government, holiday care campaign; THE GARDEN TULLN GmbH; Danube University Krems Department for Building and Environment (DBU) Center for Environmental Sensitivity; ecoplus. Lower Austria’s Business Agency GmbH; FH Wiener Neustadt – Biotech Campus Tulln; Horticultural School Langenlois; University of Agricultural and Environmental Education; technology kids; Municipality of Tulln; University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (KinderBOKU).
The environmental movement “Nature in the Garden” is the holder of the Austrian Ecolabel (ÖCERT) for educational institutions. In 2016, “Nature in the Garden” received the eco-label certificate in the “educational institutions” category for the first time, which was recertified in 2021. The “Nature in the Garden” Service GmbH was also honored. With these awards, all of our educational offerings bear the quality seal of the ÖCERT eco-label. “Nature in the garden” thus proves that education for sustainable development is a core concern that goes beyond horticultural and pedagogical competence. This is achieved through the topics of our lectures, workshops and seminars, but also through energy and resource-saving working methods in everyday office life, at events, during productions and on the outdoor area of the first European, purely ecologically maintained garden show.
