Youmna Gemayel is in Geneva for a conference which marks the release of a book in tribute to her father, the former president of Lebanon Bechir Gemayel, who was assassinated 40 years ago, a few weeks following coming to power.
40 years following the tragedy, it is now a foundation that bears the name of Bechir Gemayel to continue to bring to life the political and cultural heritage of the former president. This Friday came out a book dedicated to him.
Lebanon wounded by its conflicts
Since 1975, Lebanon has lived in a turbulent context. War, political and religious conflicts between Christians and Muslims, the country goes through periods of turbulence. Recently, in 2019, the population revolted once morest the ruling political leader. A revolution that led to a national economic collapse. The explosion at the port of Beirut on August 4, 2020, which Youmna Gemayel calls “the explosion of the century” will not have helped. The Lebanese guarantees that she will continue to fight for her country and does not rule out getting involved in politics, just like the past generations of her family.
