The artist, Hoda Sultan, was born on August 15, 1925, from the village of Kafr Abu Gendi, which belongs to the Qutour Center in the Gharbia Governorate.
Abd al-Salam Abd al-Aal was imprisoned, and she belongs to a very rich family. Her father married 3 times and had 25 children, and she is the sister of the artist Mohamed Fawzy.
Huda memorized the entire Holy Qur’an when she was 11 years old, and at a school party she sang a song by Umm Kulthum, which won the audience’s admiration. Then she started singing at parties, birthdays and family events, and she loved singing.
After Mohamed Fawzy traveled to professional singing in Cairo, Huda Sultan followed him, and then she went to production companies in order to work in art, but the owners of the companies were afraid of Mohamed Fawzy, as he threatened to kill anyone who helped his sister to work in art.
And in order to reassure Muhammad Fawzy that his sister would not work in art, he married her to a person named “Mohamed Naguib” and gave birth to a daughter named “Nabila.” In 1950, the movie “Sit El Hassan” was shown on Huda Sultan
So she went to her brother in an attempt to persuade him to act in the film following she persuaded her husband, and Muhammad Fawzy agreed, and she succeeded with great success.
After the success that Huda Sultan achieved, it seems that her husband was jealous, so he chose her between him and art, so she chose art, so he divorced her.
After her divorce, Muhammad Fawzi Ali decided that his sister would not work in art, and then she met a film producer and distributor named “Fouad Al-Jazairli”, so she married him.
After that, she acted and sang with Riyad Al-Sunbati in the only movie he represented, called “Habib Albi.”
After Hoda Sultan became a famous star and had admirers, her husband “Fouad Al-Jazairli” tried to force her to quit art, so problems arose that ended in divorce.
Fouad al-Atrash, the brother of Farid al-Atrash, and she continued with him for a while, then the divorce occurred.
“Nahed and Maha” during that period made many films such as “Al-Osti Hassan”, “Jaeloni Magrema”, “Fatwat Al-Hussainiya”, “Rasif Namira 5”, “Nimrod” and “Al-Fatwa” and worked in more than 300 films.
There were big problems between her and Farid Shawqi. Some say that the reason for the problems was that Hoda Sultan loved Rushdi Abaza while she was acting with him in the movie A Woman on the Road, where Farid Shawqi refused to represent his wife with Rushdi Abaza and then persuaded him to agree on the condition that there should be no kisses in the film.
But the script of the film necessitated that there would be kisses, and when Farid watched the film, problems occurred. Some say that the reason for the differences is Farid Shawqi’s travel to Turkey and his preoccupation with the fans there.
These problems ended in divorce, following which she married theatrical director Hassan Abdel Salam, and on the day of her joy, Farid Shawqi came in disguise and cried for her loss.
She retired from acting long before her death and wore the hijab following advice from Sheikh Muhammad Metwally Al Shaarawy, and performed Hajj and Umrah 15 times, and daily recited 5 parts of the Qur’an.
It is noteworthy that Huda suffered from lung cancer in her last days and passed to God’s mercy on June 5, 2006 at the age of eighty-one years.
