“Ecotectura” is the name of the new, young team. It focuses on creative and sustainable accents in hotel and tourism architecture. One of the managing directors is Mario Sampl from St. Margarethen.

“With every new project, we build on the knowledge of the past and develop it further in order to create sustainable, innovative solutions for tomorrow,” say the managing directors of the newly founded company “Ecotectura”. The team around the two managing directors, Philipp Schafflinger, who was born in Gastein and Mario Sampl, who is from Lungau (from St. Margarethen), has experience in the catering industry and even comes from the tourism industry. The young architects, builders, designers and engineers are now devoting themselves to sustainable hotel and tourism architecture.

“What is important to us is architecture that uses resources responsibly,” says CEO Philipp Schafflinger. “This works especially when our projects are socially, ecologically and economically optimized,” adds CEO Sampl, who, together with Schafflinger, implemented his parents’ business, the new “Schlöglberger” in St. Margarethen. “A special feature is the use of our own resources,” says Sampl, “we use wood from agriculture for our buildings and commission local companies. In general, the future of a project is very important to us. That’s why it’s not about a hotel being rebuilt quickly – or is being restructured. It’s about realizing long-term visions. Where and how do you want to make a name for yourself in the future? Incidentally, so do the employees.” This is how the “Ecotectura” team wants to design with its customers step by step – over many years: “With a holistic view. We work hand in hand. What is the plan for the interior and exterior design? Everything has to be authentic be.”

The young team, “our average age is 28 years,” can already look back on some very successful projects in the past: “We’re like a family, everyone looks out for each other. Nobody lets the other down,” says Sampl. Teamwork is important to them, “we also have different preferences. One likes to be in the forest and the other loves the pulsating city life,” says Schafflinger. “We want to create spaces that not only integrate perfectly into the surroundings, but also have the courage to set new accents. Solutions that not only meet the requirements, but are also prepared for the future – always in harmony with of nature. A green area is important to us, what was previously sealed with an underground car park should be greened up again at the top. The feel-good places for the guests should also always be economical.

Sustainability in tourism is a central issue for the future: the construction sector consumes a lot of resources and generates almost two thirds of Austria’s waste. “We have a responsibility for sustainability in construction,” says Schafflinger, who also speaks out against “greenwashing”: “A short-term tactic. That no longer works. Instead of being satisfied with superficial, environmentally friendly-sounding measures, architects and builders should have the courage “Developing and implementing real sustainable solutions means not only integrating environmentally friendly technologies, but also making responsible decisions in the construction, material selection and operation of hotels.”

**Interview with Mario Sampl, Co-Managing Director of Ecotectura**

**Interviewer:** Thank⁤ you for joining us today, Mario. Could you start by telling⁣ us⁢ about the vision behind Ecotectura?

**Mario Sampl:** Thank you for having me! At Ecotectura, our ⁤vision is to blend sustainable ‌design principles⁢ with innovative architecture in ‌the tourism sector. We aim to minimize environmental impacts while ⁢optimizing social ‍and economic outcomes. Every project is an opportunity to build on past knowledge while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in ⁢sustainable hotel and ⁤tourism architecture.

**Interviewer:** That sounds amazing! Can you elaborate on how your team incorporates sustainable practices into the designs?

**Mario Sampl:** Absolutely. We focus‌ on responsible resource use, which is⁢ crucial to our approach. For instance, we utilize locally-sourced materials, such‌ as wood from regional agricultural operations. This not only supports the local economy but also reduces our carbon footprint. We believe that architecture should reflect the community and its resources, which ultimately enhances the identity of the destination.

**Interviewer:** It’s encouraging to hear about local sourcing. What role⁤ do long-term planning and future visions play in your projects?

**Mario Sampl:** Long-term vision ⁢is at the ‌heart of our ‍design philosophy. We’re not just looking to‌ create‌ a hotel that serves its purpose today, but one that thrives in the⁤ future.⁤ This means considering the social, ecological, and economic impacts of our designs over time. We ask ourselves, “Where do we want to be in ten or twenty ‍years?”⁣ and make decisions that ⁤align with that vision, ensuring sustainability is integrated into the project lifecycle.

**Interviewer:** That’s a thoughtful approach. As someone with a background in tourism, how do you see the industry evolving in terms of sustainability?

**Mario Sampl:** The tourism industry is rapidly evolving, particularly in ⁢response to consumer demand‍ for eco-friendly practices. Travelers are becoming increasingly aware of ‍their‍ environmental impact, which is driving hotels and tourism businesses to adopt sustainable methods. Our goal is to ⁣lead this change by demonstrating that sustainable design ⁢can⁤ be both innovative and ‍profitable, creating enduring value for our clients and the communities we serve.

**Interviewer:** It sounds like Ecotectura is at the forefront of this shift⁢ in tourism. What message would you like to leave our readers who are interested in sustainable travel and architecture?

**Mario Sampl:** I’d encourage everyone to prioritize sustainability, not just in ⁤their travel‌ choices but also in how they think about the spaces we ⁢inhabit. Ask questions, support local businesses, and advocate for responsible architecture that respects the environment. Together, we can create a future‌ where tourism enhances rather than harms our planet.

**Interviewer:** ⁤Thank you, Mario, for sharing your insights. ‍We look forward to seeing Ecotectura’s ⁤impact on sustainable tourism architecture!

**Mario Sampl:** Thank you! We’re excited about the future and appreciate your support in spreading the message of sustainable ‌tourism.
