Take a look behind otherwise closed doors: This is possible on Open Monument Day. Many buildings in Bremen are also open to visitors.

The day will be opened in the state of Bremen with a ceremony in the water tower on the Stadtwerder, the “Upside Down Chest of Drawers”. A total of around 60 monuments will take part in the day of action.

From the cathedral to the industrial park

In Bremen, the town hall and St. Petri Cathedral in the city center as well as the Lloyd Industrial Park in the airport city, the Free Waldorf School in Schwachhausen, the Kaisen Barn in Borgfeld and the so-called “Upside Down Chest of Drawers” are among those open to visitors.

In Bremerhaven, in addition to a historical city tour, you can also visit several ships. In the surrounding area, for example, you can visit the Old State Parliament in Oldenburg, the Old Shoemaker’s Workshop in Stuhr, the Old Pastor’s House in Bassum or the windmill in Achim.

The Open Monument Day has been held every second Sunday in September since 1993. This year, around 6,000 monuments can be visited throughout Germany, many of which are otherwise not accessible to the general public.
