Notice to those who hate voice messages, you will now be able to hear them on Twitter. The platform is launching an option to now leave this type of message to its contacts, in private message. On Twitter, the option, available on the mobile application, is now offered to Internet users when they wish to exchange in private. This feature remains easy to use: all you have to do is authorize the platform to access your phone’s microphone beforehand.

To record a voice message, the user must press the purple icon symbolizing the sound once, then press once more to stop and check the message before sending it. You can also press and hold to save before swiping up to send it directly to your interlocutor. The recording cannot exceed 140 seconds, a nod to the long limit of rigor on Twitter, of 140 characters per tweet.

The benefits of vocals

Appeared with instant messaging, sending voice messages has been rapidly adopted in recent years by younger generations. Most platforms have understood this well: Instagram launched this same option in 2018, as did WhatsApp which did it a few years earlier.

For some, the voice format has a few advantages: it remains more embodied and practical for telling something, unlike a message that must be typed. We go faster, while avoiding spelling mistakes. Conversely, some users are reluctant to use or listen to this type of message, seeing it above all as a form of intrusion. Especially since some vocals can be particularly long.
