WhatsApp is releasing a new feature that lets users respond quickly with a video message. According to the makers, this is done in the same way as with a voice message, but with images.
Recording a video message is faster and more accessible than recording a video via the camera app and then uploading it to WhatsApp. You can record a video message from the chat window and it will be sent immediately followingwards.
WhatsApp late in a announcement know that the videos can be up to a minute long. If the recipient receives such a video, it will automatically be played without sound. Tapping will show the full video with audio. This makes video messages different from voice messages, which do not play automatically and have no recording limit.
By briefly tapping the microphone with which you normally record a voice message, the button changes into a camera. You can then hold down that button to record a video.
WhatsApp sees this feature as a way to quickly share moments. “With all the emotions you get with video.” For example, you can use the new function to convey a birthday wish, laugh at a joke or share good news.
Not everyone will be able to send video messages immediately. WhatsApp says it will roll out the feature incrementally over the coming weeks.
