The BioWare Mega Collection usually costs $190, but it’s currently 90% off.
I know what you’re thinking. You think “I wish I had something to do with these 500 free hours that I have”. Well, look no further, my friend, because on Steam you can pick up a bundle containing the entire Dragon Age and Mass Effect collection, some of our best RPGs of 2023, for £17 / €20. Yes, this includes Andromeda. Sorry.
The BioWare Mega Collection includes Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 (in their remastered Legendary Edition incarnations), Mass Effect: Andromeda, Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2, and Dragon Age: Inquisition. According to the wisdom of the crowds at HowLongToBeat.com, that’s 500 hours of RPG if you go for full completion. When not on sale, the pack sells for £160 / €190 and you have until May 29 to pick it up at its discounted price.
That is, by any reasonable metric, Too Much Game. We’re in “booking a month off” territory, and even that might not be enough if you literally have something else in your life. But (most of them) these are some of BioWare’s best and absolute classics of the cinematic RPG genre. If you’ve managed to avoid them so far, you’re in for a treat.
If you’ve been deep in the Siberian wilderness for the past 20 years and don’t know what these games are, then A: Thanks for reading GamingTest.fr dot com, solid priorities there, and B: Here’s what they’re all regarding.
Mass Effect 1-3 tells the story of Commander Shepard and their rocket ship full of attractive aliens as they attempt to save the galaxy from genocidal robots. Lots of choices and lots of romance. The first game is, objectively, the best, but a lot of people keep insisting that the second game is one of the best ever, and I guess I can understand why. Even Mass Effect 3, which caused all the controversy when it was released, is still a pretty good game, aside from Troy Baker’s pissed off ninja.
Andromeda is, well, a failed experiment. In an attempt to unravel all the choices it lets you make regarding the state of the Milky Way in ME 1, 2, and 3, BioWare has set up its latest Mass Effect in the Andromeda galaxy. He didn’t take advantage of it, though: you only encountered two new alien races, both of which were pretty boring, and the game’s writing took on a gritty, Whedon-esque tone that hunted many of them (including me ). Still, it has its defenders, and you might find something to like in it if you try.
I only played the first Dragon Age game myself, so I can’t tell you too much regarding the series as a whole, but it’s all fantastic, dark fare. Think blood magic, elf racism, all that good HBO stuff you’ve come to know and love in regarding four of Game of Thrones’ eight seasons, but in an original BioWare-imagined setting that’s way more fantastic than Westeros. Dragon Age 2 is a black sheep, but nowhere near as reviled as ME: Andromeda, and hey, we scored it 94% in our Dragon Age 2 review. A decision that remains completely unchallenged to this day.
