The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 will be able to send a wired video signal through their USB-C 3.2 port. Concretely, you can therefore connect your foldable smartphone to a television or an external screen with the right USB cable.

Like last year’s models, les Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 et Z Fold 5 are preparing to revolutionize the world of foldable smartphones next week. Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 pre-orders are already open and the phones will officially launch on August 11, 2023.

They will accommodate a very practical feature, especially for users looking for productivity. In effect, a USB-C 3.2 port will equip foldable smartphones. The USB-C 3.2 port might not mean much to everyone, but it’s the one for connecting to an external display.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 does not support Samsung’s DeX mode

So you can connect your Galaxy Z Flip 5 or Z Fold 5 to your TV or any other external display to display your phone’s content. All you have to do is connect the two devices with the right cable, i.e. a USB-C 3.2 cable. No other manipulation will be required to enjoy the content displayed on the Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip on the big screen.

This feature is all the more important for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 because it will not be compatible with DeX. What is it precisely? DeX mode is a feature available on some recent Samsung models. It will also be found on the next Galaxy S24 and its Exynos 2400 chip in Europe. DeX allows you to turn your Samsung flagship into a computer by connecting it to a TV, keyboard, mouse, etc.

We already have confirmation that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will support DeX mode. The cheaper Galaxy Z Flip 5 is however deprived of it this year. This is obviously not an oversight, but a voluntary decision on the part of Samsung. Indeed, the South Korean giant is worried about the cooling capacity of its flip phone.

According to Samsung, the DeX mode would cause Z Flip 5 overheating because of its higher consumption of CPU and GPU resources. The foldable device being “the smallest” of the brand, its thermal performance is not the highest. Anyway, Samsung is catching up with USB-C 3.2 which will still allow you to connect wired to a television or computer screen.
