Solidarity with the people of Ukraine is huge. Whether with aid packages, donations in kind and money or voluntary work – the Germans help where they can.
But not only the people are affected by the war, the animals also need our support. The zoos in the embattled cities of Ukraine such as Kyiv, Odessa and Kharkiv are particularly feeling the effects of the conflict. Supplying the zoo animals with food and the necessary medicines is becoming more and more difficult in the animal parks from day to day.
On Twitter, users are currently calling for the purchase of tickets to the various zoos.

Since the zoos are closed, the income is also falling. The animals still need to be taken care of. Ticket sales should help with that.
And this is how it works: On the homepage of the individual zoos, you can click on the buy button to go to the Kontramarka website, a Ukrainian event broker and ticket agent. Depending on availability and accessibility, tickets can be bought there.
Meanwhile, the committed employees in many zoos keep operations running on site.
“We try to keep the animals occupied and give them the opportunity to exercise in the fresh air from time to time,” reports director Kirill Trantin from the zoo in Kyiv to his German colleagues. The facility houses around 4,000 animals, too many to evacuate. That’s why Trantin has been living in the zoo with his colleagues and their families since the Russian invasion.
Tierpark Berlin has set up a donation account for its colleagues (IBAN: DE84 1004 0000 0661 2345 00, BIC: COBADEFFXXX, purpose: Zoo Kyiv).
Payment transactions to Ukraine are still possible, but this can change at any time.
