Yoseph Leads Temporary Standings in Open Category

Japfa Chess Festival 2024.(DOC PB PERCASI)

CHESS PLAYER from Central Kalimantan IM Yoseph T Taher is currently at the top of the open category standings until round 3 with 3 points in the 2024 Japfa Chess Festival tournament.

Yoseph still maintains full points after on Sunday after winning 2 points by defeating Aceh chess player Jalaludin Al Mubarok and continued in the 3rd round by winning over young Jakarta chess player MF Satria Duta Cahaya.

Yoseph was superior in solkof over 11 other chess players who had the same score, namely MN Arief Rachman, MF Rian Kapriaga, Hudallah, Claudia, M Arief, IM Irwanto Sadikin, Iqra Muda, Zacky, Astian, Astoyo and MF Hamdani Rudin.

As is known, the 2024 Japfa Chess Festival will compete in 13 categories, competing for a total prize of Rp324, running until August 23, 2024.

The 13 categories are international duel meet, Senior Open Category, Senior Women’s Category, Veteran Category, Company/Agency Category, Junior Men’s Category (maximum 2006), Junior Women’s Category (maximum 2006), Open Category (Blitz Chess), Junior Men’s Category (maximum 2010), Junior Women’s Category (maximum 2010), Junior Men’s Category (maximum 2014), Junior Women’s Category.

Meanwhile, Indonesian female chess player WGM Medina Warda Aulia has not managed to improve her performance after falling behind with a score of 0.5 – 1.5 from talented female chess player from Vietnam, WGM Vo Thi Kim Phung, until the 2nd round of the standard (classical) chess match of the 2024 Japfa Chess Festival International doubles at the Multipurpose Building, GBK Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday (18/8).

Previously in the first round which took place on Saturday (17/8), Kim Phung managed to hold Medina to a draw.

On Sunday afternoon, the two met again in the second round, where Medina held the white pieces while Kim Phung held the black pieces with a French opening.

Match Inspector Hendry Jamals admitted that until the second round of classical chess, Medina was still unable to play consistently and to his best performance. (Z-6)
