‘Granddaughter of Dr. Yoon Bong-gil’ Yoon Ju-kyung, a proportional representative representative of the People Power Party, attended the March 1st commemoration event held in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, but was stopped from visiting by the district mayor of the Democratic Party of Korea.

Rep. Yoon attended the 105th anniversary of the March 1st Movement held at the March 1st Independence Movement Memorial Hall in Hwangeo Market, Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, on the morning of the 1st. In 1919, the Hwangeo Market Independence Movement, in which regarding 600 Gyeyang residents participated, was the largest demonstration in Incheon. Representative Yoon, who also served as the director of the Independence Hall of Korea, came to the event on this day due to his relationship with former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong, who is running as a People Power Party candidate for Gyeyang, Incheon, in the April 10 general election, as they had promoted a pledge for veterans in the last presidential election.

Rep. Yoon notified the Gyeyang-gu Office, which hosts the event, of his intention to attend in advance, but was excluded from the list of worshipers and did not receive a reserved seat, so he sat at the back of the event venue. Rep. Yoon’s side asked Rep. Yoo Dong-soo of the Democratic Party, who is currently serving in Incheon Gyeyang-gap, to allow him to participate in the ‘visiting of the National Assembly members and the chairman of the party council’, and Rep. Yoo accepted and called Rep. Yoon directly when it was his turn to pay his respects. As Rep. Yoon walked forward, Gyeyang-gu Mayor Yoon Hwan, who was sitting in the front row, raised his arm and blocked him, and Rep. Yoon had to return to his seat. District Mayor Yoon served as a district councilor as a member of the Grand National Party, but since 2014, he has been elected as a district councilor and district mayor as a member of the Democratic Party. The Gyeyang-gu Office reportedly claimed, “Rep. Yoon cannot visit the shrine because he is not a member of the constituency.” Rep. Yoon and former Minister Won visited separately following the event.

The People Power Party protested, saying, “Is it Democratic Party-style freedom and democracy to not allow people to even visit shrines unless they are ‘on my side’?” Spokesperson Jeong Hee-yong said, “There can be no left or right faction in commemorating the noble spirit and values of the March 1st Independence Movement,” and added, “The Democratic Party, which politically censored even the qualifications for worship and physically blocked worship, must apologize to Rep. Yoon Ju-kyung.” .

Representative Yoon Ju-kyung said in a phone call with this paper, “It is meaningless to divide into red (People Power Party) or blue (Democratic Party) on March 1st, and we should all honor the patriots who sacrificed and dedicated themselves for the freedom and independence of our country. “It’s a shame what happened,” he said.
