The movie “Stories of Yong’an Town” directed by Wei Shujun will be released nationwide on September 8. The film came to Guangzhou on September 2, kicking off the 14-day, 14-city roadshow across the country.
On the same day, director and screenwriter Wei Shujun, producer Wan Jun, screenwriter and starring Kang Chunlei, and local Guangdong director Yang Pingdao who acted as an actor in the film came to the scene to communicate and interact with the audience. Interestingly, following the last screening in Guangzhou that day, the cinema projectionist suddenly raised his hand from the small window in the back row to express his love for the film, which moved the creators.
“Story Collection of Yong’an Town” is a story regarding movies, dreams and life. The film is directed by Wei Shujun, written by Kang Chunlei and Wei Shujun, starring Yang Zishan, Huang Miyi, Liu Yang, Kang Chunlei, and starring Liang Ming, Yang Jin, Yang Pingdao, Song Chuan, Zhai Yixiang, Geng Jun, Wu Zhongtian and other young directors. With the theme of “In Yong’an Town, nothing will happen”, in the main line of a film crew going to Yong’an Town for filming, the stories of two female characters, the local restaurant proprietress and the female star who returned to her hometown to film, were added.
The roles of the screenwriter and director run through the entire film. The two used humorous and playful language to expose the inside story of the film industry, which caused bursts of laughter from the audience. Interestingly, Kang Chunlei, one of the screenwriters of “Stories of Yong’an Town”, played the role of Chunlei, the screenwriter who was filming in Yong’an Town. The latter disagreed with the director’s philosophy, and the two failed to agree on the gist of the script until the end. In the post-screening exchange session, Wei Shujun and Kang Chunlei said that in the process of creating “Yong’an Town Stories Collection”, although the two often “cold war” when creating, fortunately, they did not reach the point where the director and screenwriter of the film were angry with each other.
Wei Shujun also revealed that the script of the film has undergone major revisions: “Two weeks before the start of the film, we suddenly felt that this script might not be seen by people, so we used the limited time to rewrite the current script.”
It is worth mentioning that Guangzhou is not the first stop of the national roadshow of “Stories of Yong’an Town”. Just because the typhoon “Sula” was regarding to land on the coast of South China the day before, the crew had to temporarily cancel the road show in Shenzhen. Several main creators who have already arrived in Shenzhen even went to the location of the road show to “check in” to shoot a small video and apologize to the audience through the Internet.
During the Guangzhou Roadshow of “Stories of Yong’an Town”, the film received unanimous praise from the audience. In the last scene of the road show, when the post-screening interaction was going on in the venue, the main creator suddenly found that the projectionist in the small window farthest from the theater was silently raising his hand. Afterwards, the projectionist expressed his love for “Story Collection of Yong’an Town” through a small window, which caused applause from the audience.
