The Paris 2024 Olympic Games recently concluded and taekwondo athlete Yohandri Granado had the honour of being awarded one of the seven Olympic diplomas obtained by Venezuela, a delegation that was unable to win any medals, something that had not happened since Sydney 2000.

Granado, 24, believes that her performance in the French capital was positive because she gained experience in the world’s top competition, something that she believes will help her try to excel in Los Angeles 2028, where she hopes to win a medal in order to delight the people of her native country.

“The next goal will be to seek that much-desired medal for the country and I hope to do so in Los Angeles 2028,” he said in a conversation with Aloys Marín, a member of the press department of the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV).

Granado participated in the competition for men’s -58 kilogram (kg) athletes and did not win any fights, losing 2-0 in the first round to South Korean Tae-Joon Park and then 2-0 to Frenchman Cyrian Ravet in the repechage. He finished seventh in his division and that allowed him to obtain certification from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Now, after analyzing his performance in Paris 2024, he hopes to evolve as a fighter in order to be more successful in the future, because he will have four years to gain international experience and gauge his talent. He added that the setbacks in France left him with many lessons that he considers vital to grow as a fighter.

“I came here to do a good job, but I didn’t expect these negative results. No athlete likes to lose, but we have to keep working. It was my turn not to win, but making my debut at the Olympic Games served to achieve a goal,” he added.
