Yogurts made with Quaker granola are removed from shelves

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced on Friday the recall of various yogurts and parfaits made with Quaker granola, a product that was itself the subject of a recall earlier this week for fear of the presence of salmonella.

The recall involves 30 types of yogurt and parfaits sold at several grocery store chains across the country. The products all have an expiration date of January 13, 2024.

The agency said no cases of illness linked to these products have yet been reported and urges the public to contact a healthcare provider if they become ill.

It also encourages the population not to consume, use, sell, serve or distribute products covered by the recall and to throw them away.

Quaker Canada announced this week a nationwide recall of some of its granola bars and cereals due to potential exposure to salmonella. The best before date range is January 11 to July 9 or September 7, 2024.

This decision targets nearly forty products of various flavors, ranging from Croque Nature cereals, to Quaker Chewy and Dipps chewy bars, in addition to Délices Capitaine Crounche bars with berry flavor.

Quaker Canada explained that it made this decision following a recall initiated earlier Thursday in the United States by the Quaker Oats Company.

Salmonella is spreading

Before Quaker granola, the CFIA recalled cantaloupes responsible for an outbreak of salmonellosis, which left seven people dead in the country at the end of last year.

The agency said 164 cases of salmonellosis linked to Malichita and Rudy brand cantaloupes were laboratory confirmed in eight provinces. Quebec was the hardest hit province, with 111 confirmed cases of infections.

The outbreak led to three class actions, including from the law firm Slater Vecchio, which said it had filed a lawsuit in British Columbia against the Mexican company Malichita, which grew the cantaloupes, and against two American companies.
