Yield of Boxes with Nu Fund Immediate Reserve: how does it work?

The Nubank Boxes are a tool to save money in an organized way, according to your goals, directly in the Nu application. When creating a Box and setting a deadline for using the money, the application shows an investment suggestion, which can be changed by the user. One of them is the Nu Reserva Immediata fund.

Nu Reserva Immediata is what is called in the investment world a fixed income fund referenced to DI. In other words, this type of fund invests most of its money in securities whose yield is linked to the CDI rate.

A fund works like a basket with several investments inside and its return depends on the performance of these investments. Those who choose these assets are professional managers.

That is: within this basket, managers choose investments in order to balance the risks and the fund’s return objective, which is communicated to the investor through the technical material, the slide and the regulation. All funds present their strategy to investors so that they can understand whether it makes sense for their profile, goals and investment capacity.

Nu Reserva Immediata is 80% in public bonds, CDBs, LCAs and LCIs, and 20% in private credit bonds (debentures) – all of these assets are fixed income. Nu Reserva Immediata does not invest in any variable income asset, such as shares, foreign currency, BDRs, ETFs, etc. The fund’s credit exposure limit is 50%, but since its inception, managers have not invested more than 15% in this type of asset. The goal of Nu Reserva Immediata is to outperform the CDI in the long term.

Although it is a safer modality than variable income funds, some fixed income funds can also vary according to the moment in the market and the economy, for example. The yield of funds that hold corporate fixed-income securities (debentures, for example), as is the case of Nu Reserva Immediata, may also vary due to the performance and risks in general of companies, as it is a debt security issued by them. That is why the fund’s return, although projected, cannot be guaranteed.

And why is the fund called “fixed income” if it varies? Because despite the name, a fixed income security, depending on its index (CDI, IPCA, etc.), can also have fluctuations in its prices due to market factors.

Therefore, when looking at your investment in the Nu Reserva Imediata fund, we always recommend analyzing longer intervals such as three, six and 12 months, as variations, especially in the short term, can occur given the nature of the assets and the market itself. While yields cannot be guaranteed, the assets are designed to give you the chance to beat the CDI over time.

Rescue

The Nu Reserva Immediata fund allows you to redeem your money quickly, as it has daily liquidity (D+0).

In practice, it works like this:

  • If you request a redemption before 2 pm on business days: the money will be available in your account following 6 pm on the same day.
  • If you request a redemption following 2 pm or on weekends or holidays, the money will be available in your account on the next business day.

Administration fee

There is a charge for an administration fee, which is the value of maintaining the fund. This rate is 0.3% per year – equivalent to a total of BRL 0.30 for every BRL 100 invested every 1 year.

Income tax

As with any fund, there is also the incidence of Income Tax on income, according to the time the money was invested in the fund. The longer this time, the lower the percentage of tax to be paid. See the rates below:

  • Up to 180 days: 22.5%
  • From 181 to 360 days: 20%
  • From 361 to 720 days: 17.5%
  • Over 720 days: 15%

The IR collection takes place in the quota-eating model. This is an automatic charge made every six months, always on the last working days of May and November.

In addition to Income Tax, in fixed income funds there is also the IOF on income from redemptions made less than 30 days from the application date. After that period, it becomes exempt.

The profitability of the Caixinhas with the Nu Reserva Imediata fund is the profitability of the fund itself – that is, how much it yields. This yield is directly linked to the CDI, the basic interest rate of the Selic economy and the performance of the investments that are within the fund.

As it is an investment fund, the profitability of Nu Reserva Imediata may vary and cannot be guaranteed.

In 2022, the Nu Reserva Imediata fund yielded 108.54% of the CDI (a total yield of +13.09%). That is, a person who invested BRL 100 in January ended the year with BRL 130.90 before deductions for administration fees and taxes.

See the yield in detail:

  • Profitability of Nu Reserva Immediata accumulated from the beginning (01/13/2022) until the end of 2022: +13,09%
  • Profitability in December 2022: +1,15%
  • CDI in December 2022: + 1,12%
  • Accumulated CDI (January to December 2022): + 12,06%

Do not. The Little Box is the tool to separate and store money in an organized way, and by purpose. The Little Boxes, in themselves, are not investments. They are the tool that separates your money from the account you use on a daily basis.

Behind every little box there is an investment. One of the investment options for the Caixinhas is the Nu Reserva Immediata fund.

Every investment, even the most conservative ones, carries some kind of risk. For those who want to minimize these risks, there are investments in fixed income with protection from the Fundo Garantidor de Crédito (FGC), an entity that protects the money invested in the amount of up to R$ 250,000 per CPF and per institution.

When creating a Little Box, customers receive an investment suggestion, but have the option to change if they want. One of the options is Nubank’s RDB, which has FGC protection and a stable yield that accompanies 100% of the CDI. This is even the investment we recommend for emergency reserve. The Emergency Reserve Boxes have an immediate liquidity RDB as a standard option.

The Nu Reserva Immediata fund may be a more interesting option for Caixinhas that have medium and long-term objectives, as it has a strategy that seeks to outperform the CDI over time. As with any fund, this yield may vary according to market fluctuations. To be able to invest in this fund within the Caixinha, it is necessary to fill out an investor profile in the Nu application.

For now, the Caixinhas have the RDB and the Nu Reserva Immediata fund, but the idea is to introduce other options for our customers. We will let you know as soon as new investments enter the Boxes. Keep your Nubank app always up to date.

In the market, time is one of the variables that influences how much your money can yield. In many cases, those willing to leave the invested amounts for a longer period can find more profitable options.

This does not mean, however, that your investments for short and medium term goals are not valid. Just that you need to consider other factors when choosing your assets, such as redemption period, liquidity and risk – and not just yield. In the world of investments, there is no “investment of the moment”, which will make you earn money fast – messages like this usually indicate scams, be aware!

These points must always be analyzed and considered so that your investment strategy is aligned with your objectives, with your profile, your monthly investment capacity, and so that you have control over your investments.
