Yguazú 500kV substation: work registers 97% progress and is in the final stage

Asunción, IP Agency.- With 97% of the progress of the construction and interconnection of the future Yguazú Substation at 500 kV, it is already in the final stage of the project, reported the National Electricity Administration (ANDE).

This strategic work, of great scope and of national interest, will allow Paraguay to withdraw 100% of the power that corresponds to it from the Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant and will contribute to the economic growth and social development of the country.

In that context, the president of ANDE, Félix Sosa visited on Thursday, April 27, the future Yguazú Substation located in the city of Yguazú, department of Alto Paraná, to verify the current state and progress of the works . . . .

It is important to remember that the works were distributed in two lots that included the construction of the Yguazú Substation at 500/220/23 kV, with state-of-the-art equipment that provides greater flexibility and reliability to the facilities at all voltage levels, in addition for the installation and commissioning of two banks of 600 MVA 500/220/23 kV autotransformers, totaling 1,200 MVA of power, and another 220/23 kV transformer of 80 MVA power.

Also, for the interconnection a new 500 kV Transmission Line, double ternary was built from the Margen Derecha Substation, to the future Yguazú Substation, with a total distance of 40 km; said lines have a capacity of 2,000 MW each, in addition to the sectioning of the 220 kV Transmission Line Kilometer 30 – Cnel. Oviedo, as well as the adequacies of the 220 kV Right Bank Lines (Itaipu) – Itakyry and 66 kV Right Bank Line (Itaipu) – Hernandarias.

These works (500 kV double ternary Substation and Line) are being executed with an investment of approximately $103 million and financed through funds from the Latin America Development Bank (CAF) Loan and a component of own funds of the ANDE. The construction of the Yguazú Substation was awarded to the Siemens Rieder Yguazú 500 kV Consortium, through International Public Tender No. 1542/2019 “Construction and Interconnection Project of the Yguazú 500 kV Substation” and the construction of the two Transmission Lines was awarded to the company CIE SA.
