On the eve of the rebellion, Yevgeny Prigozhin refused to sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense, because of which Wagner PMC could be removed from the special operation. This was stated by the chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Andrei Kartapolov. He is quoted TASS on Thursday, June 29th.

According to him, a few days before these events, the Ministry of Defense announced that all formations performing combat missions must sign a contract with the department. Everyone except Prigogine obeyed, Kartapolov emphasized. According to him, then the head of Wagner was informed that in this case the PMC would not take part in the SVO, the company also lost funding.

“For Mr. Prigozhin, this (financing) is the main, if not the main thing. <...> The following happened: the first is money, the second is stupid and exorbitant ambitions, and the third is an excited state. Together, all this resulted in an attempt at treason and deception of their comrades-in-arms, ”added the head of the committee, speaking about the reasons for the attempted rebellion.

On June 10, the Ministry of Defense reported that the head of the department, Sergei Shoigu, signed an order according to which volunteer detachments must sign contracts with the ministry by July 1. This will give them the necessary legal status, create common approaches to organizing support and fulfilling their tasks.
