This is why it is crucial to take measures to protect and preserve the function of our kidneys. Here are some key strategies:

Maintain healthy blood pressure.

Adopt a diet low in sodium and rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

Do physical activity regularly.

Limit alcohol consumption and avoid smoking.

Control your blood sugar levels.

If you have diabetes, it is crucial that you keep your blood glucose levels under control.

Follow a healthy eating plan designed specifically for people with diabetes.

Take your medications as prescribed by your doctor.

Regularly monitor your blood sugar levels.

Maintain a healthy weight.
