Yesterday morning, there were suspicions that Saigon celebrity Niu Wang had been struck by a vehicle and was rescued while lying next to a village home.

A beloved cow king named “Three Head King” in Saigon who is adored by his herd of cattle is suspected to have been hit by a car on April 3. He went missing for a few days and when he finally reappeared, he was noticeably much thinner. Yesterday morning, he was discovered lying beside a fence of a village house in San Wai, Ha Kei Ling, and was unable to stand up. The fire department and AFCD personnel arrived on the scene and with the help of 10 people, they lifted him up and rescued him.

According to volunteer Camille of “Niu Niu in Fourteen Townships,” the veterinarian of the Fisheries and Conservation Department revealed that San Shou Wang might stand up on his own, but he was suspected to have been hit by a car and was not out of danger. He still needs to be observed for a few more days.

San Shou Wang is well known to Sai Kung cattle volunteers and many villagers. Being around 6 years old, he became one of the cattle kings when he was 3 years old, leading the cattle to forage around. San Shou Wang has a strong bond with his cattle companions, as he believes in a strong family concept. He was sent to the Fisheries and Conservation Department for treatment in 2021 due to a foot injury. After recovering, San Shou Wang returned to Sai Kung, where a group of volunteers and villagers came to greet him, creating a touching scene.

However, some villagers revealed that a vehicle hit a cow and then ran away on April 3 this year, near midnight. San Shou Wang disappeared for 3 days from April 4th to 7th, and when he reappeared, the volunteers noticed that his spirits had deteriorated and he had lost a significant amount of weight. It is estimated that he lost dozens of pounds.

Ever since then, volunteers had been observing the condition of San Shou Wang and found that his walking speed had slowed down and his food intake had also decreased significantly. It is believed that he lost his appetite due to the pain caused by being hit by a car. Until yesterday morning, San Shou Wang was found lying beside the fence of a village house, unconscious and unable to stand up. Firefighters and staff from the Fisheries and Conservation Department arrived at the scene to rescue him.

The road where the accident occurred is a crossroad, and the villagers have already proposed to the government to add a sign with a cow on the road to remind drivers to be careful. Unfortunately, the government has not followed up, and as a result, another accident involving a cow being hit by a car occurred.

Volunteers and many villagers are concerned regarding San Shou Wang’s condition and only hope for good news. “In fact, San Shou Wang recovered from his foot injury two years ago. He has been very happy since returning to Shishi township. Although his ability is not as good as before, he is still very active in helping to lead the herd and take care of the calves. This time he was hit by a car and was injured, and the villagers all hope that the Three Kings can return home safely once more.”

Let us all wish San Shou Wang a speedy recovery and hope for his safe return to Saigon to continue living with his beloved herd.
