Vienna (OTS) The neighborhood centers of the Vienna Relief Organization support the “Take it with you in your reusable tableware” campaign by the City of Vienna Environmental Protection in cooperation with the Vienna Chamber of Commerce. The goal is to activate 500 people to approach businesses in order to increase the acceptance of reusable tableware for take-away. The campaign runs from October 2023 to February 2024.

With several climate protection initiatives, the Relief Organization Neighborhood Centers would like to bring the topic more strongly into the Viennese neighborhoods. With the campaign “Take it with you in your reusable tableware – reusable for take-away in the catering industry”, a campaign is now being launched together with the City of Vienna Environmental Protection and the Vienna Chamber of Commerce to reduce the energy and resource-intensive production of disposable tableware.

Added value through reusable

Under the motto “Added value through reusables”, a total of 500 people are to be activated to encourage catering establishments to accept reusable tableware for take-away. If the company says “yes”, this can be made visible to guests with a sticker.

“A simple and efficient way to avoid packaging waste and thus protect our environment is to switch to reusable packaging. There is still a lot of potential here, especially in the take-away sector. What is needed is, on the one hand, greater awareness of this topic On the other hand, there are also initiatives that can be implemented quickly. As a Viennese relief organization, we want to make our contribution to establishing reusables as a sustainable standard – that’s why it’s so important to us to enable low-threshold access and to support this campaign.”said Sabine Geringer, Managing Director of the Vienna Relief Organization, at the kick-off event on October 5th.

“I am very pleased that the environmental protection department of the City of Vienna and the Vienna Chamber of Commerce have started this important project and are thus contributing to environmental protection and avoiding waste. Joint initiatives and advisory services from the city to implement environmentally friendly measures have now become a tradition and show the good, comprehensive cooperation and its benefits for everyone involved. A big thank you also to the Vienna Relief Organization and all the volunteers who are helping to bring the ‘Take it with you in your reusable tableware’ initiative to the wider public,” said state parliament member and local councilor Nina Abrahamczik in her role as advisory board member of the Neighborhood Centers Aid Organization.

“Just go shopping with your own ‘can’, take ready-made meals, cheese or meat products, wash them out and reuse them? It works! I am very pleased to be supporting the ‘Take it with you in your reusable tableware’ initiative together with the Vienna Relief Organization and the Vienna Chamber of Commerce. Our goal is to avoid packaging waste in this way. Especially in a big city like Vienna, such ideas can make a big difference to our environment. Take it with you!”, says state parliament member and local councilor Markus Wölbitsch, also an advisory board member of the Neighborhood Centers Relief Organization.
