Coach Yeom Ki-hoon (41), who was appointed as the 9th head coach of Suwon Samsung, a professional soccer team that was relegated to K-League 2 (Second Division) for the first time since its founding, declared that he would put everything on the line for promotion.

At a media conference held at the Suwon Samsung clubhouse in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do on the followingnoon of the 11th, coach Yeom Ki-hoon said, “The sense of responsibility is greater than the joy of becoming a coach. I risked everything in my soccer career.”

He added, “During my career as a player, I always thought discipline was important. I told the players that although they used to be older brothers, now they are the coach and I will make all decisions for the team and that I can’t help but feel disappointed.”

Suwon fired coach Kim Byeong-soo in September of last year and appointed Yeom Ki-hoon, a Suwon legend and playing coach at the time, as acting coach.

However, Suwon ranked last in K League 1 and was relegated to K League 2 for the first time in 28 years since its founding in 1995.

Suwon, which pledged to make a fresh start with the goal of promotion, appointed Ki-hoon Yeom, who was acting manager, as the club’s 9th head coach on the 9th.

Also, on the 8th, general manager Park Kyung-hoon, who has experience in both supervision and administration, was recruited to begin renovation work.

Yeom Ki-hoon is a legend who played for Suwon for 14 years, but fans’ eyes towards him, a ‘beginner manager’, were cold. The main reason was that he failed to remain as acting manager last season and his lack of experience.

Regarding the fans’ love turning into criticism, Coach Yeom said, “I fully understand the fans’ concerns. It is true that I have no experience, but I don’t want you to think that I don’t know anything. I haven’t shown anything yet, but other leaders “I am confident that I will work harder and try harder,” he said.

He continued, “Honestly, if my calculations had been faster, I wouldn’t have coached. My family was also once morest it. However, there were a lot of changes while working with the players for three months as an assistant manager last season. You may not know it from the outside, but the changes were really big inside. So I can’t really change it. “I have faith that it will happen,” he added.

He added, “There was a lot of criticism when I first came to Suwon in 2010. I tried very hard to change that. I haven’t shown anything as a leader, but please evaluate me following the season,” and added, “What is clear is that I have the confidence to change the team.”

General manager Park Kyung-hoon also gave his support, saying, “Coach Yeom knows a clear way to solve problems,” and added, “I will convey my experience to Coach Yeom and help him become a good coach who will be an asset to Korean soccer.”

Coach Yeom pledged to play dynamic soccer to rebuild the famous team. He said, “Our team’s composition of players is not bad, but we saw a lot of players passing and standing still last season. It will be difficult for players who do that in the future to get a chance.”

He continued, “As a player, the first thing is basic. Things can’t be helped outside, but you have to follow discipline on the playground. We won’t use players who don’t,” and added, “You can’t build a team without discipline.”

With the relegation to the second division, the extent of changes in the squad is expected to increase.

Kwon Chang-hoon, who was a member of the club’s youth team, recently left for Jeonbuk Hyundai in the K League 1, and striker An Byeong-jun is also expected to transfer to Busan I’Park.

Coach Yeom said, “I am upset regarding (Kwon) Chang-hoon’s transfer. Chang-hoon was discharged from the military and tried to work hard for Suwon, but the injury was not a consideration. I spoke on the phone before the transfer article was published, and he said he was sorry a lot.” .

He added, “Changhoon still has the will to advance overseas. Just as I chose to become a manager, I must also respect Changhoon’s choice.”

Regarding the recruitment of new players, he said, “Director Park Kyung-hoon has given us strength since he came in,” and “I will bring in the players I want, but now it is more important to retain existing players than to recruit them.”

Seoul E-Land FC was selected as the team that should compete in the second division for promotion. E-Land is igniting its will for promotion by bringing in coach Kim Do-gyun, who led Suwon FC last season.

Coach Yeom cautioned, “I think E-Land will have strong motivation with the arrival of a new coach. We have also recruited many new players.”

Lastly, he strongly denied the allegations that he incited the players to sack former coach Kim Byeong-soo last season.

He said, “I don’t know where that story came from. I risked my life to be proud,” and added, “It was really difficult for my family. My wife cried every day. It was really hard for me to say that it was true when there was no evidence that I staged a coup.”

Meanwhile, the Suwon team, which was convened on the 4th, is scheduled to conduct its first training camp in Bangkok, Thailand from the 12th to the 29th.
