Yemen Takes the Helm at the 162nd Arab League Council Meeting

The Yemeni Republic’s representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Riyadh Al-Kaabari, received the presidency of the Arab League Council from the representative of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Ambassador Al-Hussein Sidi Abdullah Al-Dayeh, who chaired the “161st” session of the Arab League Council.

On Sunday, the meetings of the 162nd regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States began at the level of permanent delegates, in preparation for the meeting of Arab foreign ministers, scheduled for next Tuesday.

The Council of the League of Arab States, at the level of permanent delegates, discusses topics related to strengthening joint Arab action, the Palestinian issue and the Arab-Israeli conflict, an item on Arab affairs and Arab national security, files on Arab international cooperation, and a number of files on economic, political, and social affairs of Arab countries.

The Yemeni delegate to the Arab League, head of the 162nd session of the League Council at the level of permanent delegates, stressed that “this session will be mainly devoted to agreeing on a common Arab position regarding the fascist Israeli aggression against the steadfast people in the occupied Palestinian territories.”

He explained that “the truth before everyone today is that an occupied, defenceless people is being subjected to systematic genocide, ethnic cleansing, deliberate starvation and displacement.”

He pointed out that “the UN Security Council is not fulfilling its legal and moral responsibilities to stop this fascist war against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories, from the siege of cities and camps, forced displacement, the use of starvation as a weapon in the barbaric Israeli war, the systematic killing and destruction of the infrastructure of Palestinian refugee camps, the round-the-clock incursions into cities, villages and camps, the demolition of homes, the bulldozing and destruction of streets and infrastructure by the occupation bulldozers, and the arrest of thousands of Palestinian civilians in inhumane conditions.”

He stressed that “these tragedies and crimes have become a symbol of the abject failure of what is called the international community and the UN Security Council, as the Palestinian people were left alone to suffer the crimes of the occupation and their disastrous consequences.”
