The Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) has issued a yellow rain warning for the provinces of Liège, Namur and Luxembourg from Monday at 10 p.m. The warning is valid until Tuesday 10:00 p.m. for Liège and Namur while it extends until Wednesday 10:00 p.m. for Luxembourg.
Between Monday evening and Tuesday evening, accumulations of 25 to 40 liters of water per square meter are expected south of the Sambre and Meuse furrow. They might “very locally exceed 50 l/m2“, warns the MRI. Between Tuesday evening and Wednesday evening, “another 15 to 35 additional l/m2” are expected, especially in the south of the country.
The provinces of Namur, Liège and Luxembourg are placed on yellow warning. In the other provinces, “the threshold for a warning is just not reached“, underlines the IRM. The quantities of precipitation which will fall there in the three to four days to come will remain significant, warns the institute. “The situation should be monitored closely because this warning might be extended to other provinces and/or extended over time.“The move to the next warning level (orange)”cannot be excluded in the south of the country either.“.
