U.S. Treasury Secretary Yellen said on Thursday that the Biden administration is prepared to bear the economic costs of strengthening America’s security once morest China’s threat.
“National security is of critical importance in U.S.-China relations,” he said in a manuscript prepared for a speech he will give at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington this morning. “Even if these concerns go once morest America’s economic interests, we will not compromise,” he said.
With relations between the United States and China deteriorating, Yellen now outlines three priorities for the Biden administration’s China policy. The three points are to protect national security and express concern regarding China’s movements, to aim for healthy and fair economic competition, and to promote engagement on issues such as climate change and debt restructuring in developing countries.
Yellen has not mentioned the possibility of visiting China. His visit to China has been planned for months, but no date has been set yet.
Some speculate that China will eventually replace the United States as the world’s largest economy, leading to conflict between the two countries. We were wrong,” he said. “America has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to adapt and reform in the face of new challenges.
